Your mind is a battlefield and the attention of your mind is highly sought after: by the Lord, by others, by the enemy. The battle is won or lost in the mind before anything happens outwardly because your thoughts are the beginnings of your actions. Guard your mind. Be vigilant about what goes in through your eyes and ears. Choose the better way, for it is the way to freedom. Don’t concern yourself with what sacrifices you have to make – choosing freedom is not a sacrifice, as the benefit far outweighs the cost. Use your mind and the things that you think about to build you up; make it work for you instead of against you.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
