I saw a vast, dark army in battle array, positioned outside the city walls. They stood in disciplined order and banged the ground in unison with their weapons.

Inside the city walls, the sight and the sound of this brought fear, intimidation and even terror. People were running to and fro, wondering what to do; it seemed as if there was no leader. And even yet, the enemy was not moving; they were outside the city walls. The enemy had advanced as far as it could and could go no further. But still, inside the city there was widespread panic.

God says, ‘I am a fortress and a shield to you, so why do you fear? You bear my name and I have sealed you with my blood, so why do you panic?

Have I not said to you to “put on the full armour of God so that you will be able to stand firm”? (Ephesians 6:11) Have I not said that your enemy the devil “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”? (1 Peter 5:8)

I have given you you the weapons of warfare; did you not suppose that you would need them? The army that you see is a defeated foe. I have called you, my children, to enforce the victory and to establish my kingdom rule. I have given you my word and the weapons of your warfare to subdue the enemy before you. The mandate given to Adam in the garden to rule and subdue the earth has been restored through my blood and given to you. So you have nothing to fear.

As you take your stand with the sword of the Spirit and take up the authority that I have given to you, see the order, discipline and intimidation of the enemy disappear. Watch as panic and fear begins to spread throughout their ranks. They know who they are and they know that they are defeated.

The enemy knows who I have made you to be and what I have invested in you, but do you know? When you do, you will only ever see the devil’s back as he flees from you.

James 4:7

Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
