A call to the true fast – your Lion Bites word for today

Isaiah 1:17
Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.

Don’t quash the feelings of compassion and even righteous anger that the Holy Spirit has been stirring up inside of you in recent days. Haven’t we become all-too-good at sitting on our emotions, perhaps out of a misguided sense of politeness and a fear of man? But now, allow the fear of God to rise above all your reservations and so motivate you towards a Spirit-empowered action that breaks chains: ‘Cry out loudly, don’t hold back. Raise your voice up like a trumpet!’

The Lord is raising up, en masse, a people who rile against injustice and oppression in their locality – but also in the nations. He is reminding His church, His ekklesia, of what a true fast is to Him:

Isn’t the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood? Isaiah 58:67
