A Word Challenge – your Lion Bites word for today

How much of God’s written word – the Bible scriptures – are you consuming in your daily diet?

Picture this – For some it has been like a little child who was well fed on hearty meals but then, little by little, the meals were exchanged for soup. Over time, the bowls of soup that the young adult ate became less and less thick… until a day’s meal was one bowl of watery soup. The person – now an adult – had learned to get by with only a spoonful of nutrition dissolved in their daily ration. Their body had shrunk and adapted to cope with this starvation – the person barely thought about food, such was their stomach’s diminished capacity. Mealtimes were not pleasant experiences and a bite a day seemed to be all they had an appetite for.

But there is hope for that person – there is always hope! They began to increase the spoonfuls of nutrition and, in time, their stomach expanded again. Soon, their body began to grow and fill out – muscles strengthening, flesh becoming healthy. They began to enjoy mealtimes again, filling up on good stuff and looking forward to the next feast. The person would fall asleep at night, remembering what they’d eaten in the day and dreaming about tomorrow’s banquet. They would wake in the morning with excited thoughts about the flavours, sensations and nourishment that they would enjoy in the day ahead.

Why not spend some time with the Holy Spirit, reviewing your daily intake of bread? Are phrases or verses all that you have the capacity for right now? Could you start to consume whole passages, chapters or books in a day? You DO have the time but does your capacity and appetite need re-trained?

Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers.
